Volunteering for Swim Team

We had a great first day of swim team practice and then Wednesday came the weather. I think we will be back on track today.

This is my seasonal heads-up that we will need lots of volunteers this summer. We’ve all taken our kids to soccer or other sports and probably stood by as two or three parents ran the team. Swimming isn’t like that. You can’t run a swim program without parental help. In fact, it takes over 40 parents to time, officiate and score a typical swim meet, and that doesn’t include pool set up and tear down or volunteering at the snack bar, or non-swimming team activities. Coaches are the only paid staff for the swim team — everyone else is a volunteer.

Unsure what the options are? Check out our parent resource page for more information.

Some of the volunteer options require training, please consider becoming a Stroke and Turn judge (want to go somewhere close: Sunday, June 9 from 8-10 AM there is a S&T training at Little Hunting Park; 7000 Canterbury Lane Alexandria, VA 22307. There is also a variety of training sessions this Saturday, June 1, at the Fairfax Gov. Center. The full list of trainings and FAQs are located on the parent resource page. and please note that all NVSL trainings are free.

Need to know where a pool is located, go to https://www.mynvsl.com/ , click the teams tab at the top of the page.

Special Note: our concessions manager, Chris Upham, is going to need assistance this summer. He has a few meets where he is out of town (June 29 and July 1 and he needs to leave early on June 10) . Would one or two of our seasoned volunteers be willing to help here?

Have questions? I will be hosting a new parent session at the picnic tables by the back playground. 5:15 – 6:15 on Friday, May 31.
